Reporting data
What data do you want?
The data required are the number of cultured-confirmed cases and deaths of melioidosis in Humans from the year 2012-2016. If contributors have data collected from earlier years than 2012 that can be reported as well. For example:

What if I have incomplete data? For example, I have data of only some years but not every year you asked. Or, I know total number of culture-confirmed cases, but I don’t know whether they died or survived?
Contributors can provide data for the years they have collected, does not have to be fixed for the years 2012-2016. If contributors are not sure or do not know about the number of deaths or culture-confirmed cases for a particular year, they can just state
“Unknown” on the table..

Can I report or include melioidosis cases diagnosed by clinical criteria, serological diagnostic tests or PCR assays as well?
Yes, you can. However, we will put it in the same category as publication and not put it into the standard data contribution format. This is because the main aim of the data contribution call is only for culture-confirmed melioidosis cases and deaths.
Can there be more than one contributor for a particular Institution site?
Only one contributor will be named on the standard format. However, additional contributor can be noted in the note at the contribution site, or in the letter when reporting to melioidosis.info. All final letters will be made as PDF and posted on the website
Can we update the information that we have sent earlier?
Yes, you are able to update the information by filling up the form and emailing us with your latest findings. All information sent by contributors is saved on the database and can be updated whenever.
What will be done with the data provided by contributors?
Total numbers of culture-confirmed cases and deaths as well as institution support provided by contributors will be uploaded onto the
Online database and updated on the
Map found on the website. This information is accessible to anyone that visits the website such as clinicians, funders, policy makers and researchers.
Who own the published data ?
The data (total numbers of culture-confirmed cases and deaths) will be openly available and under open access policy (CC-BY 4.0). In short, the data can be reused, redistributed and modified by anyone; however, the users must give credit to the contributors (each person and institution who contributed the data [the total no. of cases and death at each site] and melioidosis RCN [as curator]), and state any changes if data has been changed by any means.
What are the benefits of contributing to the website?
Local and global policy makers will know where melioidosis cases have been observed, and how many died of the disease. Local and global policy makers will know who and which institution in the country has the capacity to diagnose the disease. Funders and other researchers will know where they can fund melioidosis researchers and find partners to expand research works, respectively.
Information is collected from contributors and publications, what if data is duplicated?
Information is collected from both contributors as well as open-access publications, there is a possibility of repeated or duplicated data. To take care of this problem, we show all data that we retrieved from published literature and contributors as links and PDF, respectively, we curate the data using statistical programmes, and we display summary data (total no. of melioidosis cases and death) with only non-duplicate data.
I would like to report a culture confirmed melioidosis case. Can you include information to your database?
Our main aim is to curate TOTAL NUMBER of culture-confirmed melioidosis cases and deaths from each hospital and each institution. A single case report can be made as PDF and put into the same category as published literature, and we will put all of your contact information into the PDF as well.
